KAIRA LOORO - PLACE OF WORSHIP
The Kaira Looro Competition is an annual competition for architects and designers that seeks to to adopt sustainable architecture models for humanitarian purpose to improve life conditions in developing countries.
The AMASS entry for the sacred architecture competition focussed on the crossovers between community, worship and and spirituality. Intended as a multi-faith community space, the single circular form contains both the social and spiritual functions with an internal street connecting the two zones.
The proposal adopts traditional local building technologies such as bamboo, mud brick and crushed oyster shells in a new way to create an architecture that is experimental yet soulful and deeply rooted in place.
